Admissions to Hongwanji Mission School
On behalf of the Admissions Committee, thank you for visiting our website. We hope information contained here will help you to provide a snapshot of what we have to offer. HMS a private co-educational, independent, Buddhist-based school, located in Nu'uanu Valley, adjacent to downtown Honolulu.
At Hongwanji Mission School, we strive to provide a safe environment which stresses a diverse academic curriculum with emphasis on moral and spiritual values. We recognize that each student is an individual worthy of personal attention. To this end, we have kept class sizes small to allow our teachers an opportunity to provide as much guidance and instruction as possible.
Recognizing that we live in a world of global interdependence, HMS students from preschool through grade 8 learn Japanese as a foreign language.
Of note are facilities on campus which includes a gymnasium, swimming pool, library, and computer lab. An extensive after school program, holiday care, and summer school program are some of the additional programs we offer.
We strongly suggest that you visit our campus as part of your admissions process. We feel that visiting our campus when the children are actually in the classroom is best way for the prospective parents to see how our classes are conducted. Please call our administration office at 532-0522, extension 0, to schedule a tour with the Admissions Director.
