We are still adding up all the contributions made during this year’s PTO fundraiser, but it is already apparent that the families and friends of the students attending Hongwanji Mission School have given generously once again. Donations have been pouring into the school office whether it was through the Foodland Give Aloha Program, employer matching contributions, the sale of Yama’s kalua pig tickets, or a combination of these options.
Here are some of the results.
On October 17th, Dr. Carol Riley and Christopher Kam represented HMS at a celebration for the 100 top organizations taking part in Foodland’s Give Aloha Program. At that celebration, Dr. Riley and Chris were given a check for $46,514 for our school! That total was made up of $37,535 in donations from HMS families and another $8,979 in contributions from Foodland and Western Union Foundation. That’s right, almost $9,000 in FREE money!
As far as Yama’s tickets sales go, we sold over 2,500 tickets. That means we sold over one ton of kalua pig! People are also picking up their kalua pig early this year. Yama’s told me that they had already redeemed 200 tickets in the first two days of the pick-up period. I guess people can’t wait to eat that ono kalua pig. The final amount of funds raised through this option will be determined after the pick-up period ends and will be reported later.
On behalf of the PTO Executive Board I would like to thank everyone for their generous contributions and support even during these scary economic times. A personal thank you goes out to all the Room Parents who conscientiously tracked all of the checks, cash and receipts in their classroom envelopes. There is no way I could have accounted for all that without them.
