Preschool & Kindergarten Applicants to HMS

Admissions Procedures

Our admission process consists of three parts: the student observation session, the student evaluation session, and the parent(s) interview with the Head of School.

Preschool applicants must be 3 years old by October 31st.

For preschool and kindergarten applicants:

  • The student observation is a group session usually held on a Saturday beginning in late January. The group observation will help us to see how your child interacts with other children and how they behave in a group setting . The observation sessions generally will last for about one hour.
  • For the student evaluation session, your child will be given the Braken Readiness Test, which will be done on a one-to-one basis. The test includes, but is not limited to: identifying colors, alphabets, numbers, and shapes; making comparisons; and understanding terms describing size and quantity. This evaluation session runs approximately 30 minutes long.
  • The parent(s) interview with the Head of School , preferably without the child present, may be scheduled on the same date as your child’s evaluation session ( not observation session). This interview runs approximately 30 minutes long.
