HMS Grade School Grade 2-7 - Ms. Jolene Tanaka

WELCOME TO SECOND GRADE!

My name is Jolene Tanaka and I am one of the second grade teachers.  I have been a teacher at HMS for the past nine years and I have loved every minute of it!  I am eagerly anticipating the new school year with my super second graders! 

In second grade the connection between academics and life skills are emphasized.  This is accomplished through an inquiry-based curriculum that is hands-on and integrated across core subjects.  Each child is unique in their learning style and various teaching methods are used to develop the “whole child.”  Curriculum is influenced by Buddhist values such as compassion, interdependence, respect, and oneness with self, others, and nature.

Second grade is a year full of new discoveries and adventures.  The second grade teachers have many fun and enriching activities planned for the upcoming school year.  I am excited to begin the journey with my amazing group of students.
